“I calmly approached the easel and just let it go, while still giving my attention; And simultaneously, having no idea what would be the end result. I actually started by looking at all the colors before me. Grabbing the one I favored most, the marks started flitting onto the paper. That was a deep gray. Next, came the magenta. Then, the scarlet crimson. Followed by the yellows, and greens… it continued that way, mixing, pondering, dabbing, until I said, “okay, yeah, good exercise.” There’s a biblical story (Daniel 3) where these 3 men Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down and worship the King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol and serve his gods. This, being the king's decree, or be thrown into a fiery furnace. They told the king they would be saved from the flames, and even if they weren’t, they would not serve his gods or worship the image of gold. So the king ordered them to be bound and thrown into a furnace. He also ordered the furnace to be heated 7 times hotter. It was so hot the soldiers who had hold of these 3 men were killed when attempting to throw them into the furnace, due to the extreme heat. The 3 men fell into the furnace. An angel of God (or God himself) was observed by the king and his men, walking around in the flames. The king called out to the 3, to come out, so they did. They were uncharred, completely unscathed. Then, the king was amazed and knew that these men served a God who would help them. Also, he was astonished how these men would defy the king, risking their lives, so as to not serve or worship any god other than their own God. The 3 were then promoted, and a decree made to never say anything against their God.”
