About LEVIATHAN and The Remnants
"This piece was created in my second round of tapestries for my new, ongoing collection called "The Remnants." Aptly named for the handspun "scrap yarn" the piece is woven with, this tapestry boasts a variety of leftover yarn pieces from many projects over the past 5 years. The dark, brooding tones with curious sparks of color were curated to be reminiscent of the mysterious deep, tempting the viewer in for a closer look. As your eyes traverse the landscape of the textile, you’ll notice twinges of unexpected hues that fit in with the color scheme of the whole, yet appear unique when focused upon.
While searching through my mounds of scrap yarn, I selected textures and colors to build a deep-sea environment. Once I had successfully curated my palette and carded it into batts, I spun up about 70 yards of an eclectic, sea-monster inspired yarn. (Not all 70 yards were used in this piece.)
As Leviathan roams the deep, seen only by his maker, whispers of projects past speak to me when I view this woven sea."
